Of Tempo and Temperature

TM8295 Of Tempo and Temperature 22×22 oil on panel

In spring and fall, when the difference between the temperature of the air and water can be great, all manner of fogs, vapors, and steam can suddenly occur. I pass a pond on my way to the studio each morning, and in the fall, if I’m early enough, I often see vapor rising off the pond into the cold air. It looks like a dance, this slow and sinuous movement up and away. It will disappear as soon as the sun warms the air, but for a brief time, the effect is mesmerizing. Of Tempo and Temperature, based on one recent morning, serves to prolong the dance. Enjoy!
